The joy of Carnival
When you think of Carnival, you probably imagine confetti, streamers, and curious costumes. All true, but here in the Belluno Dolomites, we go beyond the clichés. In particular, in the mountain valleys of the upper part of the province of Belluno, Carnival rituals with unique characteristics are still alive, with roots stretching back to ancient times.
Masks carved from wood, original characters, local customs, and striking symbolism: these are the Archaic Masquerades of the Dolomites, widespread from Agordino to Comelico, from Val di Zoldo to Cadore.
Each carnival has its own unique and unrepeatable characteristics, while at the same time certain recurring elements remind us that an invisible thread connects even the most distant communities in the Alps.
On the one hand, there is Carnival with its colorful parades and entertaining costumes, and on the other, there are the Archaic Masquerades of the Dolomites, which bring to life ancient traditions linked to nature, the seasons, and Alpine myths. Both celebrations are an explosion of joy, masks, and dancing that make February and March even more special. If you are looking for a unique experience combining tradition, popular culture, and fun, the Dolomites await you with unmissable events.
